The Best Luxury Department Stores

The best luxury department stores is a highly subjective matter, however, there are a few favorites that offer luxury goods at really affordable prices. Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, and Bergdorf Goodman are the market leaders, both in terms of offers and revenue.

All of the mentioned above are investing tons of resources into their online platforms and it has never been a better time to explore the world of affordable luxury through the eyes of department stores.

Bloomingdale’s

A favorite of mine is Bloomingdale’s. Bloomingdale’s is an American luxury department store chain that was founded in 1861. Isn’t that amazing? A luxury department store that has been in business for a good 150+ years! In 1930 they became a part of Macy’s.

There are a few neat functions of their website. One is that you can buy the items online and choose to go and collect the items in-store the same day. You can also book an appointment with a personal shopper and stylist, just for you.

During Bloomingdale’s end-of-season sales you can find affordable luxury deals at up to 80% OFF on many luxury and design brands. Keep an eye out for your favorite brand!

Macy’s

I have to mention Macy’s, even though they might not be the first luxury choice. The first recommendation first, sign up for their email. You can both score gifts and some amazing prices when the sale season is ongoing.

Macy’s is one of the largest American department stores by sales. And it’s not strange, they have active stores in 45 states. They are also one of the well-known names when it comes to shopping.

Neiman Marcus

Neiman Marcus is another chain that owns various luxury department stores around the US. Neiman Marcus business has been in the decline for a while, but that gives us hunters some good opportunities to find affordable luxury deals as they are experimenting with different methods of increasing the market share again.

Don’t forget that they also have some interesting offers in-store in terms of experiences. You can e.g. go to the beauty salon, to a spa or a mixology class in Hudson Yards.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue, another American firm with a chain of luxury department stores can be found on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York, thereby the name.

This flagship store is also responsible for more than 20% of the organization’s revenue. It’s another luxury chain that has been online for more than 150 years. Saks Fifth Avenue is also another big name when it comes to services.

They’ve got buy online, pick up in-store, digital styling, same-day delivery, alterations to pieces that can be done in all stores, whether that is on your trousers or new blouse.

You can also make private in-store appointments, eat fine dining and have personal styling. But most of these are not considered affordable luxury options.

Nordstrom

The superstar Nordstrom with its famous customer service. As other brands are taking market share by offering their products direct to consumers, Nordstrom has been an innovator and adaptor.

They have improved the customer strategy and brand partnerships improved their digital presence and leant into customer data to offer shopper real-time personalization.

You can even buy things straight from Instagram or browse items on Pinterest.

Summary

Whether you have tried them or not, the best affordable luxury department stores are, in my humble opinion, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom. They are all excellent choices, especially online, to find deals during the end of season sales. Keep an eye on them by becoming a member to receive all of their newsletter updates!
